More and more of us are getting into homesteading and self-reliant living, but it can be hard to overcome the challenges. The first (and constant) challenge to overcome is how to make time to manage a small homestead when you have bills to pay and an active, busy life.

Join us on Tuesday, June 17 (6-8pm) at The Little Rustic Homestead in Bedford County (Huddleston) for a community potluck and open discussion on creating a healthy balance between earning a living and living a homesteading lifestyle.

This forum will be lead by Pete Accomando and Krystal Vullo and will feature a brief tour of their homestead setup. Pete will also share some sage advice on managing a small homestead from Joel Salatin that he gleaned from a recent event at Polyface Farms.

Anyone interested in self-reliant living, feeding your own family, and living an agrarian, post-consumer lifestyle. This forum will be relevant for homesteading newbies, experts, and wannabees (rural, suburban, or urban). Come share your questions, thoughts, and best practices!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

(Q) Are your events kid friendly?

A) Yes, many families attend our events. Kids are welcome if they are accompanied by an adult throughout the event. But keep in mind there is no childcare and we do not currently offer kids programming. Children left unattended will be given a rambunctious puppy and a frappuccino. 😉

Q) Can I bring my dog?
(A) No. We love dogs but they need to stay home. Except for the possible frappucino puppy that we theoretically would provide. You’ve been warned! 😉
(Q) What kind of food should I bring?
(A) If it’s your first time don’t feel pressure to impress anyone. Keep it simple: bread and butter, chips and salsa, watermelon, etc. Want to go the extra mile? Put together a casserole. Bring enough to feed a handful of people. After that you’ll get the hang of it. Don’t have time to make anything? Come anyway!
(Q) Are Land & Table events free and open to the public?

(A) Our monthly potlucks are free and open to the public but if you value what we do, we ask that you consider making a donation on our website or when you come. This helps us with admin, management, event organizing costs, and advancing our mission to create a thriving local foodshed.

We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization committed to connecting, equipping, and supporting the local food movement in the Lynchburg, Virginia region.
