Land and Table Community Tour: April gathering[/caption] Land and Table is more than a monthly gathering. You could say it is a community that is in the process of forming and in turn informing the wider regional community with a message of reintegrating our lives with the land and with one another in a way that causes all to thrive now and for generations to come- socially, economically and environmentally. In efforts to continually pursue this purpose we are beginning a new phase. After over a year of gathering at Mountain Run Farm in Bedford County once a month the Land and Table community is hitting the road and going on a community tour where we will combine our potluck with a working party and discovery of member farms or other places of interest! Each month we will have a different host and each month we will be doing some service for our host. I’m calling this our “Land and Table: ‘Out & About’ Community Tour” and I believe that moving around will open up new horizons for all of us. April’s gathering is coming up this next Tuesday, April 2. We will be gathering at our Land and Table friend Cindy Morris’ place in Forest. Many of you may be familiar with Cindy, her jellies and her champion Redbone coonhounds but you may not know that she is sitting on a wealth of family history. Her family has been rooted in the land and the local community for generations and she will be sharing a glimpse into these roots. We also will be doing a bit of reverse “barn raising”. In the old days, entire communities would come together to build a barn for a neighbor. This time around we will be reclaiming old wood from a fallen tobacco barn and use it to build a portion of fencing. Now that’s real recycling! Come out for some local history, community building, and the most incredible potluck in the region. ________________________________________________ WHEN:  Tuesday, April 2, 2013 | 4:30 – 7:30 PM WHERE: Cindy Morris’ place: 1209 Everett Rd, Forest, Virginia 24551 Look for the parking sign just past the house (across the street) DETAILS: Bring a healthy, homemade dish to share, your own dinnerware (plates, silverware, cups, etc.), and a lawn chair.
