Calling all regenerative farmers, organic gardeners, homesteaders, back-to-landers, local food lovers, homebrewers, beekeepers, community garden organizers, winemakers, brewmasters, chicken wranglers, food preservers, ranch owners, farm workers, homemakers, wild mushroom hunters, permaculturalists, wildcrafters, goat huggers, cow whisperers, soil huggers, earthworm keepers, compost makers, new agrarians, wannabees, newbies, golden oldies, and everyone in-between!

Join us for the Land & Table Summer Social and community potluck at Mountain Run Farm in Bedford County on Tuesday, August 15 (6-8pm). This will be a great opportunity to network with others in the Lynchburg regional local food movement who are passionate about relocalizing the food system, reviving vibrant economies, creating thriving communities, and re-edenizing Lynchburg and surrounding counties (Bedford, Amherst, Appomattox, Campbell).

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

COST: FREE, but we ask that you RSVP.
WHEN: Tuesday, August 15 (6-8pm)
WHERE: Mountain Run Farm (Camp Sedalia): 1228 Charlemont Rd, Big Island, VA 24526
Turn into the driveway. You will see a Show Barn on your right. Keep driving straight back to the camp. You will see other cars and people 🙂
WHO: All are welcome!

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING:
– A dish to share.
– A friend (of course)!
– Your own dishware (plate, utensils, etc).
– A lawn chair or picnic blanket.
– Kids are welcome but they must be attended by an adult.

Owned by Ben and Carly Coleman, along with the extended Coleman Family, Mountain Run Farm has pioneered direct-to-consumer sales of pasture-based meats for many years. Located in Bedford County, Virginia they have been on a journey to heal the land and in turn pass the healing onto their customers. They serve the Bedford community and surrounding area with farm-born, farm-raised, grass-fed (grass-only!) beef, and pastured lamb, specializing in closed herd genetics, mob grazing and chemical free farming practices.

As founding members of Land & Table, Ben and Carly have played, and continue to play, a key role in community building, mentoring, and providing leadership for the regional local food movement.

Seed Swap and Social: 3/15/22

Spring is almost upon us and gardening will soon be in full swing. Join us on the evening of March 15 for a seed swap and social (+ potluck!) on Tuesday, March 15 (6-8pm), at the Sedalia Center in northern Bedford County.

We’re excited to be hosting our first seed swap! If you have never been to a seed swap, it is just what it sounds like – but maybe even better than you expect. What do you need to bring to a seed swap? See the checklist below. You can bring:

Heirloom or organic veggie seeds to share.
Veggie seedlings /small plants to share (please label all plants).
Envelopes or small ziploc bags for taking seed.
Marker or pen for labeling seeds if not in packet.
Flower bulbs, seeds, and seedlings are also welcome.
Seed catalogs or garden planning resources for onsite viewing.
Seed saving resources for onsite viewing.

Please note: Your seeds, and seedlings / small plants can be home-cultivated or store bought. If you have no seeds or plants to share – come anyway, take seeds home, and financially support the Land & Table seed library before you leave.

GMO or chemical coated seeds.
GMO seedlings / plants.

This event will be open to the public and all are welcome.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

– Bring a main dish to share. This is a potluck.
(Or your own dinner if you do not want to participate in the potluck).

– Bring your own dishware (plate, utensils, etc).

This is an indoor event and is rain or shine.

Kids are welcome but they must be attended to by a parent during the event.

PLEASE NOTE: As always, if you are not feeling well, or have a persistent cough, we ask that you stay home and rest. Because…there are some things that are not good to share.

RootStock: Networking Potluck – March 19

Whether you are new to our monthly potlucks or a faithful attender we are excited to kick off our 8th year of community building in the Lynchburg area local food movement. Come hobnob with other new agrarians, homesteaders, ecological farmers, natural gardeners, home growers, and local food advocates.

Join us for our March Root Stock networking potluck on Tuesday, March 19 (6-8pm) at the Angelini House at Mountain Run Farm – hosted by Mark and Allison Angelini.

Come at 5:30 for early networking. Introductions and Welcome starts at 6:00. Potluck begins at 6:30pm. Please BRING YOUR OWN DISHWARE and healthy food to share. Latecomers welcome.

Whether you are new to our monthly potlucks or a faithful part of the community we are excited to kick off a new year. Join us for our first 2019 networking potluck on [CANCELED DUE TO WINTER WEATHER] (5-8pm; eating starts at 6pm) in northern Bedford County (Sedalia), hosted by Mark and Allison Angelini of Mountain Run Permaculture.

WHERE:

(PLEASE NOTE: While this is Mountain Run Farm – it is a house, this is NOT the Showbarn and it is NOT the camp).

Gardening with the Next Generation – July 17 (Bedford YMCA)

Children and teenagers today inherit the typical U.S. American diet of highly processed, everyday junk foods that has come to characterize the average American’s food habits. Childhood obesity and diet related diseases are becoming all too common. Some children don’t even recognize raw vegetables when they see them because they never encounter them in their daily meals.

But what if we could reverse this trend? What if we could not just inspire kids to eat healthy, but to get outside, away from television, smartphone and computer screens, and get their hands in the dirt? The educational gardening movement is doing just that.

Join us Tuesday, July 17 (5-8pm) at the Bedford Area Family YMCA for the monthly Land and Table potluck and garden tour. We will be hosted by Mark and Allison Angelini as they discuss: their work with the educational garden at the YMCA for the past year, how the garden is impacting the kids who interact with the garden, and educational garden design.

Rainwater Harvesting and Potluck – July 10 (Appomattox)

Rainwater harvesting is one of the simplest and oldest forms of supplying water for human usage. For the gardener and farmer collecting rainwater from a rooftop or other surfaces could be a game-changer in areas where access to water is not already available. Rain barrels are an easy way to get started with rainwater harvesting and can be used in urban, suburban, or rural settings.

Join us Tuesday, July 10 (5 – 8pm) at Local APX Market for the next monthly Appomattox Land and Table gathering. We will enjoy an open community potluck and will be discussing how to get started with rain barrels and rainwater harvesting. We will end the gathering by viewing an onsite rain barrel installation a few minutes from Local APX Market.

WHERE: Local APX Market (hosted by Don and Nancy Wilk) 1848 Church Street, Appomattox, VA 24522 Parking is available in the rear of the building (go down alleyway on the left side of the building) or along Main Street in Appomattox.

But what do you do if you don’t have a decent yard to grow food in? You can still get in the game with container gardening no matter where you live. But knowing the in’s and out’s of container gardening can be tricky

Join us Tuesday, June 12 (5-8pm) for a community potluck and learn the secrets of container gardening from Jody Purches, life long gardener, Appomattox County Master Gardener (since 2013), and confessed mycobactyerium vaccae addict.

Whether you are just getting started with container gardening or want to take it to the next level, this is a great opportunity to learn from Jody and meet other natural gardeners, growers and local food advocates in the Appomattox area.
