SUMMARY:Drought Resistant Farm & Garden (May 16)
DESCRIPTION:Weather is one of the main aspects of farming and gardening that we wish we could control. It seems we are often praying for rain clouds to come\, or go! And yet\, maybe there are some things we can do to help our plants build resilience against stresses caused by the volatility of the weather. Drought is an especially unique challenge and right now in Virginia it is impacting the growing season in a big way. Are there ways we can farm and garden to help our plants navigate the stresses of drought? \nJoin us Saturday\, May 16 (5-7pm) at Brooklyn Hills Ranch\, in Amherst County\, for a potluck and skillshare as we look into best practices for raising drought-resistant plants holistically. Lead by farming couple\, Fred and Amber Lyssy\, this monthly group is focused on health from soil to body and everything in-between. If you are a home grower or homesteader you don’t want to miss this. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n RSVP VIA WEBSITE\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n RSVP VIA FACEBOOK\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n WhoWhat To BringWhereWhenCost\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n All are welcome – you do not need to be a Land & Table member to attend. SUMMARY:Rhythm of the Pasture (May 19)
DESCRIPTION:Mountain Run Farm‘s Ben and Carly Coleman have been local pioneers in direct-to-consumer sales\, holistic land management\, and pasture-based animal husbandry for two decades. The journey from a dis-integrated to an ecological\, whole-systems approach to farming has been full of hard-won lessons and hopeful progress toward healing the land. Fast forward to today and Mountain Run Farm is also host to a unique collaboration of multiple farm operations – including Restoration Acres Farm\, owned by Matt and Rachel Palma. The Palmas and Colemans both raise their pastured animals toward a common goal of regenerating a cycle of health – from soil to grasses\, to animals\, meat\, and to people. \nJoin us Tuesday\, May 19 (6-8pm) at Mountain Run Farm for a Land & Table community potluck and enlightening pasture walk. Come learn about multi-species rotational grazing systems\, and what raising healthy pasture-based meats can look like. We’ll follow Ben Coleman (Mountain Run Farm) and Matt Palma (Restoration Acres) as we survey broiler chickens\, pastured pigs\, sheep\, horses\, and cows. We’ll also discuss: how cows identify the right mix of plants to eat\, bob-white and quail attraction and more – all topped off with a beautiful Sedalia sunset. Bring your walking boots and get inspired. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n RSVP VIA WEBSITE\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n RSVP VIA FACEBOOK\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n WhoWhat To BringWhereWhenCost\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n All are welcome – you do not need to be a Land & Table member to attend.
